For those of you who are members of your local Legion this should be a familiar section for you. Lost Trails is a place where people come to look for things when the trail has grown cold. It may be an old shipmate, a souvenier, a piece of memorabilia, or maybe just some information.
Whatever it is if you would like some help finding a piece of the past contact us and we will post what you are looking for. If you can help someone out who is looking for something please contact us as well and we will make sure that the information is sent to the proper person.

My husband was on the Huron when it went to Korea 54 and 55. He was an
electrician. He had a book I believe called Westward Ho. It chronicled
the year that the Iroquois and Huron were there, 3 yrs.ago he suffered a
stroke which has left him paralized from waist down. I would like to get this
book again for him as the one he had was lost. His memory is intact and other
than the paralizes he is fine. His time in wheelchair is long and I would
love to get this book for him. If any of his shipmates wish to send messages I
would be happy to get them to him. He lives in a wheel-chair assessable apt.
now as he requires nursing care around the clock. He talks of his time
spent in the navy as the great years. The Huron site is absolutely wonderful.
The last re-union we attended was in Hlfx in 1985 I believe .So long ago I
can't remember exactly. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. The book
was not big but it was a hardcover red in colour. I am amassing a series of
framed photos as a surprise for father's day.Thank you kindly. Almost forgot.
His name is Henry(Harry) Jarrett

I was in Korea in 1954 under Commander Pratt and we received a photo
book of the tour of duty and I lost mine and was wondering if there is any
way that I might be able to obtain a copy of it. P Duncan

My father, John B. Danko, served aboard HMCS Huron during WWII. He was the radio operator. John Danko was from Winnipeg, Manitoba. My mother and father were married in Winniepg in 1944 and this year are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Now living in Australia, my parents are returning to Canada for these festivities. Are there any shipmates out there who remember John B. Danko and could help me fill in some history and make this "last" visit home a memorable one for him? Thank you

Hello Crewmen & supporters of HMCS Huron. First, may I compliment you on this site. Secondly, as you review my question, please take into consideration my own thoroughly civilian experience. This may account for any inaccuracies in my request for information. My grandfather James Patrick McGuire served on the original Huron during WWII. I believe he was a Warrant Officer in the engine room. He was mentioned twice in military dispatch during 1943-1945, and the circumstances surrounding the citations are unknown to his surviving relatives including 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren among whom this has always been a source of keen speculation. We have heard rumours of one involving a fire. The other is a complete blank. Please reply to Kevin at Luckyfrog@rogers.com with any information you might have. Continue your good work in keeping Canada free and safe.

My uncle, Able Seaman James Madden, served aboard HMCS Huron. It was some time between 1950 and 1953. He was killed in 1953 while on leave in Halifax. I have a photo of him and another sailor taken at the ships' badge. The photo was taken for the Toronto Star in the early '50's. He is the upper sailor in the photo. I am hoping to learn more about his short life (enlisted at 17 and was killed at 23).

Debbie Johnston Harris is looking for any information or contact with any people who knew her father, Gordon Raymond Johnston. Mr. Johnston was an Electrician's Mate on the Huron from 1954-1959 at which time he was approximately 17 or 18 years old. She has a picture of him that was painted by Nancy St. Clair. Mr. Johnston passed away in September, 2003. If you remember Mr. Johnston or perhaps know someone who served with him, Ms. Harris can be contacted at harris6366@hotmail.com

Mark Thompson writes: My grandfather, AB Isaac Ted Thompson was with the Huron since the beginning and ended after VE Day. He passed away in March 2004. I would like to correspond with whomever may have known my grandfather, or who might wish to pass along some stories and events that may have unfolded. My grandfather was a loader with the pom-pom gun and was wounded in battle in April of 1944. I would love to hear from some of his old mates. I really enjoy reading some of the tales that are posted from the crew and how life was back then. I have tried to research as much as possible about the Huron and her exploits during the war. Unfortunately, there aren't many stories. and I find that there are a lot of things missing that I would like to know. My grandfather's medals were stolen some years ago and I was wondering if anyone could provide for me a list of the ones handed out from 1943 to 1945. I remember him mentioning that he recieved a special medal from Russia after the Murmansk runs.
